Recommended Salt/Sodium Intake

The recommended daily salt/sodium intake for healthy Americans is 1,500 mg everyday, with a highest daily limit of 2,300 mg. This recommendation can be a little bit higher for bodybuilders and high-intensity sportsmen since it is crucial to replace the sodium lost in sweating. For the reason that every person sweats at different levels, there’s no clearly described level of sodium replacement for exercising.

The American Dietetic Association, the American College of Sports Medicine, and  Dietitians of Canada highly recommend that athletes weigh in before and after work out to figure out sweat loss, and then take in 16- to 24-ounce carbohydrate-electrolyte liquid for every pound lost in sweating.
