Olympic Weightlifting Training - How to Snatch

The 2016 Olympics are upon us, so BPI Sports athlete Zachary Kuipers is going to demonstrate some Olympic weightlifting, specifically the “Snatch”. This Olympic lift requires flexibility, mobility, speed and coordination. There are five steps to nail the “Snatch”: the preparatory phase, which involves hand placement and spinal alignment. The first pull, requiring leg drive and upper back strength. The second pull, which is the third step in this Olympic weightlifting workout, takes place when the bar travels past the knees through the hips…for more barbell power and explosion. You’ll need a triple extension to raise up on your toes, which is going to allow you to get the bar as high as possible. The fourth step is the catch. You’ll drop to the ground into the bottom of an overhead squat as fast as possible. The catch is the hardest step, but it brings you to the final move: the overhead squat.
