Ys are great exercises for rounded shoulders. Let’s face it, our lifestyle is geared towards having rounded shoulders. We drive, we watch TV, we sit at a desk, we look at our phone. This can be detrimental to your posture and health. Ys, while they look so easy; after all, you are laying down – are just the right amount of difficulty while still being highly effective.
They can be done at home, at the gym or really anywhere you have somewhere to lay down and stretch those arms out. The key it to support the forehead while maximizing contraction of your shoulder blades. Think about squeezing a quarter in between those shoulder blades and your elbows going towards your hips and not just straight to the ceiling. These mental cues should really help your technique stay on point. Do your best not to shrug your shoulders as that will engage the trapezius muscles.
You want to focus on the shoulder blades to help counteract rounded shoulders. Also, the switching of the hand position will really help take this exercise to the next level.
